We do these half in the arena and half out on the trail – this keeps it practical, stress free and shows how to use the trail as an ‘arena’ and how to apply it to Horse Boy work and general riding

  4. Getting Collection at walk trot and canter: how to really feel it, really get it
  5. Counter Canter and Flying Changes
  6. Piaffe, Passage, Levade and Pesade– learning to feel them on a schoolmaster. How to ask for half steps on a horse that is learning. How to ask for and sit the airs
  7. Terre a Terre – canter on the spot – why do it – how to sit it, how to get it.

In Hand Masterclasses

  1. Training the Spanish Walk –  jambettes , alternate steps and the mounted cues.
  2. Piaffe in hand – starting the young horse, through half steps in hand to first ridden cues
  3. Laterals in hand – how to get the young horse used to them before you ride them
  4. Tricks: look away, smile, jambettes, pedestal, bow, levade
  5. Canter steps in hand – the gateway to terre a terre and the airs

Longing Masterclasses

  1. Longing the young or badly trained horse – first steps to working in rhythm and contact
  2. Longing for maintenance – how to build up the back and neck, get the horse stepping under
  3. Getting extensions on the longe
  4. Different ways to longe: Vienna and side reins, in-a-hurry-lunging; double rein longing

Fitness  and Soundness

  1. Designing and executing a 12 week fitness programme that includes longe, in hand, ridden arena, ridden trail and long-lining to get the horse that can work and stay sound
